Anime: Winter Season 2015

It was really shit and I had nothing worth saying about it because it was seriously such a horrific season. I’ll have a lot more to say about Spring 2015 though as so far most of what is airing is hella’ good.

Anime: Autumn Season 2014

I would usually write up at the beginning of the season after seeing 3-5 episodes of each show, but I found myself way too busy to even watch most shows as they aired; nevermind writing about them. Soooo here’s an end of season “review” I suppose.  I’m shit at this whole writing malarkey.

If you haven’t been watching anything as it airs then be warned that there may be some spoilers in this, I’ve tried my best to just summarise up the plot without revealing too much, sorry!

I’m ashamed to say I’ve only just listened to the new Solefald EP. I suppose my love and adoration of them is slowly but surely dwindling away and this album seems to be the perfect piece for mourning what passion I once had. I feel lost and broken without the Solefald I knew, but I suppose it was inevitable to one day experience this. Everything must grow and change.

It’s wonderful to see how much the music has matured over the years but the lack of raw chaos just reminds me of the bitterness of growing up. Everything is too serious, too clean, too dull. That childish artistic wonder has gone and instead replaced by that feeling of crushing melancholy you only truly experience as an “adult”.

Norrønasongen: Kosmopolis Nord has left me feeling empty and I’m not sure what to do.

The EP is by no means bad, in fact it is a beautiful piece of work – it’s just that on a personal level I don’t find myself particularly gripped by it. If you enjoy some slow paced and easy to listen to folk then this is ideal for you, at times it reminds me a lot of Hardingrock’s Grimen but with a noisy Germanic twist with Mari Skeie Ljones’ harding fiddle playing almost as perfect as Knut Buen’s. I’m sure this EP will find a place in my heart over time, but for now I can’t lie that I am a little bit disenchanted by it. It breaks my heart to feel this way, I’m Sorry.

Anime: Summer Season 2014

I guess it’s time to reveal that I am  secretly a massive fucking weeaboo *gasp*. I’ve been watching a few shows this season on Crunchyroll as I don’t really know anywhere else that legally streams them and I’m too lazy to torrent them these days, I prefer the convenience of having them stream straight onto my TV via my X-Box and such. So yeah, I’ve only watched a handful of shows and as I am incredibly bored right now here’s my brief and uninformative opinions of those few.

Listen to: 11PARANOIAS

399176_413544438661764_498915072_nI miss Ramesses, I really really fucking miss Ramesses. Oh, what’s this? A band with members from Ramesses are playing at Desertfest, might as well check them out.

This is exactly what I wanted to hear – soul crushing Doom Metal that paralysed my entire body from the second they started to play. The vibrations strangled me, I was struggling to breath and as a result I had to fuck off towards the end of the set because it was sending me and a few friends white.

We sat down on the couch uttering nothing but “fuccckkkk” over and over again. That’s 11PARANOIAS in a nutshell.

Look, I’m shit at reviews, I’m also really shit at describing music but I just wanted to ramble on about these guys because they are fucking perfection and deserve a lot more attention. Now stop reading this nonsense and follow these links.

REVIEW: Absent Heat – End Of Material Life

Absent Heat - End Of Material LifeAbsent Heat
End Of Material Life

1. Desabafo
2. An Abstract Feeling Part. II
3. Drowned in the Sea of Hope
4. Astral Monotony
5. Memórias Enterradas
6. Windwalk

Released: 5th January 2014
Rigorism Production

Here we have 6 tracks of poorly produced pure misery, just what I want from some Depressive Black Metal. Absent Heat is a one man project hailing from Brazil and it certainly stands out among the mass of South American Black Metal that seems to be making a stand among the scene.

Black Metal to me has always been about atmosphere and Absent Heat is not lacking in such, my only problem is that it can become overwhelming and a bit stale when every track is just a massive blend of slow paced whining guitars.

The track “An Abstract feeling Part. II” showed a lot of promise, every few seconds it would build up ready to throw at you some harsh riffs and howls of despair, but alas nothing came from it, just repetition of the same chord over and over again for 5 minutes. This isn’t a problem for a stand alone track, but it hardly differs from the rest of the EP. Drowned In The Sea of Hope, Memorias Enterradas and Windwalk are three songs that thankfully break that recurrence. Within a few minutes Omar Lobato is smashing into my eardrums with vocals that could drive even  the rightfully dubbed “Happiest Man on Earth” Matthieu Ricard to slash up his wrists and jump off a cliff. Annoyingly though by the time I found myself really getting into brutality of it all, the entire structure of the songs would jump into some very out of place samples and noise, they’re not bad and they have a place in the music, they just didn’t really flow.

Overall I’d say the EP is soul crushing and drowning in anguish, it’s very lovely in that aspect and well worth checking out. Hoping to see more from this guy in the future as there’s a fuck load of potential here.

Go and give them love at these places:

Welcome to the new real

So it’s 2014, no better time to actually kick off this blog, eh?

I don’t really have anything significant to write, but I might as well ramble on with an introduction for this place. My name is CT and I just wanted a space to publish my thoughts on things I am passionate for, silly little things like Metal, Video Games and *gasp* Anime. Kvte was never originally intended as a personal blog, but I suppose it would make more sense since I have too many interests and I didn’t want to just limit this blog to just one thing I love.
