Here we have 6 tracks of poorly produced pure misery, just what I want from some Depressive Black Metal. Absent Heat is a one man project hailing from Brazil and it certainly stands out among the mass of South American Black Metal that seems to be making a stand among the scene.

Black Metal to me has always been about atmosphere and Absent Heat is not lacking in such, my only problem is that it can become overwhelming and a bit stale when every track is just a massive blend of slow paced whining guitars.

The track “An Abstract feeling Part. II” showed a lot of promise, every few seconds it would build up ready to throw at you some harsh riffs and howls of despair, but alas nothing came from it, just repetition of the same chord over and over again for 5 minutes. This isn’t a problem for a stand alone track, but it hardly differs from the rest of the EP. Drowned In The Sea of Hope, Memorias Enterradas and Windwalk are three songs that thankfully break that recurrence. Within a few minutes Omar Lobato is smashing into my eardrums with vocals that could drive even  the rightfully dubbed “Happiest Man on Earth” Matthieu Ricard to slash up his wrists and jump off a cliff. Annoyingly though by the time I found myself really getting into brutality of it all, the entire structure of the songs would jump into some very out of place samples and noise, they’re not bad and they have a place in the music, they just didn’t really flow.

Overall I’d say the EP is soul crushing and drowning in anguish, it’s very lovely in that aspect and well worth checking out. Hoping to see more from this guy in the future as there’s a fuck load of potential here.

Welcome to the new real

So it’s 2014, no better time to actually kick off this blog, eh?

I don’t really have anything significant to write, but I might as well ramble on with an introduction for this place. My name is CT and I just wanted a space to publish my thoughts on things I am passionate for, silly little things like Metal, Video Games and *gasp* Anime. Kvte was never originally intended as a personal blog, but I suppose it would make more sense since I have too many interests and I didn’t want to just limit this blog to just one thing I love.
